Custom Spinning Record Keychains — A Real Vinyl Disc That Rotates, Printed with Your Art

Pull the earphone cable. Watch the disc spin.

Not a picture of a record. Not a record-shaped sticker on acrylic. An actual rotating disc — embedded in an acrylic frame, connected to a pull-cord mechanism, printed with whatever you want on the label.

Your album artwork. Your favourite artist's portrait. A meaningful date. A lyric. A koi fish. Your band's logo. The disc spins. The image blurs into motion and resolves back into detail when it stops.

It's a tiny music player that plays nothing and does everything.

H2: How It Actually Works

The mechanism is simple. The effect is not.

A black vinyl-style disc sits in a recessed channel inside the acrylic frame. A small pull-cord (the earphone cable aesthetic detail) is attached to the axle. Pull it and release — the disc spins freely, exactly like a record on a turntable, then gradually slows and stops.

The label at the centre of the disc is your custom artwork. While spinning, it becomes a blur of colour. When stopped, the image resolves — clear, detailed, exactly what you designed.

Two frame formats:

  • Square frame — the record player / polaroid aesthetic. Holographic or transparent acrylic, the disc visible through the front, a small printed image behind the disc visible through the transparent back.
  • Round frame — the pure vinyl record aesthetic. A circular acrylic surround that mimics a record sleeve cutout. Classic, direct, unmistakeable.

H2: What Goes on the Label

The label — the centre circle of the disc — is your canvas. Standard label size is approximately 25–30mm diameter. Small but meaningful. What works at that scale:

One strong image A portrait. A character face. A koi fish. A flower. An eye. Something with a focal point that reads clearly at small scale and holds up during the spin-slow-stop reveal.

Typography as design A word. A name. A date. "Lover." "2016.7.8." "Side A." Text at this scale becomes graphic — the font, the curve, the weight of the letters is the art.

Album art crop A tight crop of existing album artwork — the most saturated colour section, the most recognisable element. The disc format references vinyl records directly, so album art on the label is the most native choice.

Illustrated character A kawaii character, a chibi portrait, a simple illustration with bold colour — character designs that work at sticker scale also work on a record label.

H2: Who This Is For

Music fans building a collection The person who has the poster, the t-shirt, the photocards, and the Spotify playlist. A spinning record keychain featuring their artist's era artwork is the object that doesn't exist yet in most official merchandise ranges — which means the fan who makes it themselves wins.

Independent musicians and bands Album release merch. Tour souvenir. Bandcamp exclusive. A spinning record keychain with your album art on the label is the most on-theme piece of merch a musician can offer. It references the format of the music itself. It's not merchandise that happens to have your branding. It is the music, in miniature.

Music-adjacent creators and shops Vinyl record shops. Music-themed gift boutiques. Record fair vendors. A custom spinning record keychain with a vintage label design or a specific genre aesthetic is a natural product for spaces that already sell music culture.

K-Pop and idol fan projects The spinning record format overlaps directly with the K-Pop album aesthetic — many K-Pop album packaging uses vinyl-style disc elements. Fan sites and fan projects use custom spinning record keychains as artist birthday gifts and anniversary drops.

Aesthetic collectors The Y2K aesthetic, the dark academia aesthetic, the vintage music room aesthetic — all of them include vinyl records as a visual motif. A spinning record keychain is a portable piece of that aesthetic world.

H2: Frame & Finish Options

Holographic iridescent frame The frame shifts between pink, lavender, and silver — the dreamy, music-in-a-dream aesthetic. Works with portrait labels and era-specific artwork.

Clear transparent frame The mechanics are fully visible — you can see the axle, the disc edge, the back layer artwork through the acrylic. An honest, open-structure aesthetic that rewards close inspection.

Tinted coloured frame Solid pink, blue, black, green — the frame becomes a colour statement rather than a neutral container. Good for band merchandise where the frame colour matches a brand palette.

Round vinyl format No outer frame — the acrylic surround hugs the disc edge closely, creating the impression of a standalone record. The most minimal, most recognisable format.

H2: Frequently Asked Questions

Does the disc actually spin, or is it decorative? It actually spins. The pull-cord mechanism rotates the disc freely. This is a functional mechanical feature, not a printed illusion.

How big is the label area I can print on? Approximately 25–30mm diameter depending on the disc size. We provide a template with safe zones and bleed areas. Small bold designs work better than fine detail.

Can I print on both the label centre and the disc surface itself? The label centre (the inner circle) is the primary printable area. The disc surface between the label and the edge is the black vinyl texture — this is not a full-surface print format.

Can I have a different image visible behind the disc through a transparent frame? Yes. For the transparent square frame, a second image layer is visible behind the disc. This creates a depth effect — the label on the disc in the foreground, a background image visible around and behind it.

Can I order 1 prototype before committing to a run? Yes. No minimum. Most people ordering for band merchandise or fan projects want to hold the sample before announcing the product to their audience.

What file should I send for the label artwork? A square or circular PNG at 300dpi minimum. We crop to the label circle during layout. Bold, simple imagery with strong colour contrast works best at the final label size.
