Two quotes for the same 3D rubber keychain can differ by three times, and the gap is rarely the artwork. Choosing a custom PVC keychain manufacturer comes down to what a vendor can physically show you — mould ownership, in-house molding, direct QC access, named lab standards — while a soft PVC keychain supplier that only resells will stall on exactly those six questions. The self-check below takes about ten minutes and tells you which one you are talking to.

Your keychain starts from a custom steel mould built for your artwork — not a flat print — and the mould is made free of charge. Because there is no tooling amortisation to recover, the unit price does not move when you reorder.
Soft PVC is moulded in 3D with raised textures, layered colour fills and crisp character detail. Colours are Pantone-matched at the mould stage rather than painted on top, and front-and-back designs are standard.
You receive a free full-colour 3D digital proof and can revise it freely at zero artwork fee until you approve it. Bulk production then runs 7–12 business days after sample approval, with quality guaranteed.
The material is eco-friendly soft PVC, REACH-compliant and phthalate-free, with water-based, odourless pigments. ASTM F963 and EN71 testing is covered, and SGS / Intertek reports are available on request.
The minimum is 50 pieces per design. Multiple colour variants of the same design share that single 50-piece minimum; a different design needs its own. Multi-character sets can be quoted as a bundled mould package.

Almost nothing on a soft PVC keychain is priced by weight alone. The drivers below decide most of the spread between a low quote and a high one, and each is something you can pin down before you compare totals.

A quote that hides a mould fee in the unit price looks cheap at 50 pcs and expensive at 500. Ask whether tooling is charged at all — and whether it is charged again on reorder.
Soft PVC keychains run 4–10 cm with 0.4–0.6 cm as the standard thickness. Relief work takes depth up to 1.2 cm. Every extra millimetre of material and cavity volume shows up in the mould and the cycle time.
Glossy, matte, glitter, glow-in-dark and transparent are all available, but glitter and glow compounds cost more per kilo and slow the run, so they widen the gap between quotes.
A 25 mm stainless steel split ring is standard; a lobster claw is optional. Hardware is a small line, but cheap plating is where low quotes usually save money — and where rust appears.
OPP bag is the default, with a white gift box or a custom retail box as upgrades. Retail-ready packaging is usually the fastest way to add cost after the keychain itself.
Volume spreads a once-only mould across more pieces. That is why a 50-piece test drop and a 5,000-piece programme should never be compared on unit price alone.

Subject: Material compliance documents for our soft PVC keychain order Please confirm in writing, for the PVC grade used in our order: 1. REACH compliance status of the compound, and the test method used. 2. Confirmation that the compound is phthalate-free. 3. ASTM F963 and EN71 coverage — which parts of each standard were tested. 4. Name of the issuing lab (SGS / Intertek or equivalent), report number and test date. 5. Confirmation that the pigments used are water-based and odourless. 6. Confirmation that the documents will be released before the bulk deposit, not after shipping.

One character design produced in three colours is still one mould and one minimum. You order 150 pieces but pay a single 50-piece minimum, because the colour variants belong to the same design.
Four different characters are four designs, so four 50-piece minimums apply. If the characters ship as a set, ask for the whole thing to be quoted as a bundled mould package rather than four independent lines.
The mould is free, so there is no tooling charge hiding in the unit price at 50 pieces or at 5,000. The only fixed cost before production is the physical sample, typically $25–$50 depending on complexity, credited back 100% against the bulk invoice.
