When you put a clear acrylic standee on a white desk, the character appears to float. Put it in front of a window and the light comes through the transparent acrylic, making the sparkle effects in the artwork genuinely glow. Put it on a coloured surface and the base takes on that colour — the standee adapts to its environment instead of imposing on it.
That's what makes the clear format the right choice for so many characters. Not because it's the simplest option — it isn't, getting the cut right on complex silhouettes takes more precision than a standard frame. But because the character deserves to be the only thing you see.
A clear acrylic standee lives or dies by the quality of its die-cut.
With a framed standee, the cut line is a rectangle. Clean, fast, forgiving. With a clear standee, the cut follows the character's actual silhouette — the specific sweep of the hair, the individual ruffles of the skirt, the exact shape of a small animal sitting on top of the head.
The difference you notice when you hold a well-cut clear standee is that the character feels finished. Not like a printed image in a case — like an object that was made to be exactly that shape, and no other.
What we cut to:
Hair — individual strands that extend beyond the body outline, flyaways, twin tails at full length, elaborate hairstyles with decorative elements sticking up.
Accessories — objects held in the character's hands, items attached to costumes, small creatures sitting on shoulders or heads (the bunny in the image here is cut as a separate element that reads as attached to the character, not embedded in a rectangular block).

On a coloured backdrop or fabric: the transparent areas take on the colour of whatever's behind them. A pink fabric makes the transparent sections read as pink. The character appears as if they're in a world that matches the backdrop.
In a display case with other standees: the transparency means multiple standees can be layered without completely blocking each other. Depth is possible in a way that solid-backed standees don't allow.

The practical limit is features smaller than about 2mm, which become fragile. We flag these in the proof and suggest whether to include or smooth them.
Can I order double-sided with the same art on both faces? Yes. Double-sided same-art means the character is legible from front and back. The artwork is mirrored on the back face so it appears correct from both sides.
