Custom Full Sheet Acrylic Stands — When the Background Is Half the Story
Die-cut standees are about isolation. Pull the character out of any context, let them stand alone.
Full sheet standees are about world-building.
The background isn't empty space waiting to be cut away. It's a deep purple starfield scattered with gold sparkles. It's a checkerboard pattern on the base. It's the decorative border that frames everything like a trading card. The character exists inside all of it, and together it reads as a scene — a moment, a location, a vibe that the character alone couldn't communicate.
When you look at this and feel "this is her universe," that's the full sheet format doing exactly what it's meant to do.
The image here shows something worth understanding: the same character presented in both formats.
On the left, a full sheet rectangle — character and background together, consistent border, text block at the bottom with a name plate slot. On the right, a die-cut silhouette of the same character — transparent, no background, just her outline.
Same character. Completely different objects.
The full sheet version tells you about her world. The die-cut version is just her.
Neither is better. They answer different questions. If your character has a defined visual world — a colour palette, a pattern, a scene that belongs to them — the full sheet is how you show that. If the character herself is the whole story, the die-cut lets her carry it.
Ordering both and displaying them together is increasingly common — the full sheet as the "setting," the die-cut as the "figure."
A full sheet standee is closer to designing an album cover or a trading card than designing a typical merch piece.
The rectangular frame gives you the same structure as those formats — defined edges, clear visual hierarchy, foreground character against designed background. The design principles that make a good album cover make a good full sheet standee: a strong central figure, a background that doesn't compete but does contribute, enough visual detail to reward a second look.
Elements that define the format:
The character — foreground Your illustration, positioned in the upper portion of the frame, extending close to the edges but not cut off. The character anchors the composition.
The background — the world Not filler. The background is designed, not defaulted. For the example here: deep purple with radial gradient, scattered gold and white star points, sparkle motifs in different sizes. Every element is deliberate. The background colour tells you it's night. The stars tell you it's magical. The purple tells you something about her personality.
The base section — ground level The lower portion of the standee, which in the example is a lighter checkerboard pattern that creates a visual "floor" for the character to stand on. This also serves as the name plate zone — an area where a character name, series title, or decorative text sits.
The border — the frame The decorative outer frame — corner ornaments, edge lines, stars at the midpoints — that gives the standee a finished, intentional edge. It's what makes the whole thing read as a designed object rather than an illustration that got laminated.
The horizontal slot cut into the lower section of the full sheet standee is one of those features that sounds minor until you understand what it's for.
Character display name plate Print a card with the character's name in matching typography. Slide it into the slot. Now the standee has an official-looking identification label — like the name plaques on official merchandise that collectors recognise from gacha prizes and limited edition merch.
Phone stand function The slot width is compatible with most phone sizes. Lay your phone landscape in the slot and the standee becomes a phone stand. Not a selling point you lead with — but fans who discover it themselves post about it, which generates organic content.
Series rotation Print multiple name cards — character name, episode title, season, date. Rotate them without changing the standee itself. The display can be updated without buying anything new.
Event-specific cards Convention name tags. Birthday wishes. Event dates. Things that change depending on context but don't require a new standee for every occasion.
The slot looks like a design detail. It's actually a versatility feature.
Artists with a defined character universe If your character has a world — a specific colour, a specific environment, a visual identity that extends beyond just their design — the full sheet is where you communicate that. The background is part of the character statement.
Creators making idol or performer characters The full sheet format is the natural format for stage performers, magical girls, idol characters, and others whose identity includes a visual "stage." The character + background composition directly echoes the way idol merchandise is formatted in Japan — poster, trading card, merchandise insert. The language is familiar to the audience.
K-Pop fan artists The full sheet standee is the format used for official idol standees in K-Pop merchandise. Fan artists who create original character designs in idol aesthetics use it for the same reason — it looks official because that's where it comes from.
Convention artists making a display piece A well-designed full sheet standee at a convention table is recognisable from across an aisle. The rectangle shape is more visible at distance than a die-cut silhouette, which can lose readability against a cluttered backdrop. Full sheet standees are easier to spot, easier to display, and easier to stack for storage.
Collectors who build themed displays A shelf with three or four full sheet standees of different characters from the same series or creator looks like a curated collection — consistent format, different characters, visual cohesion. It's the display format that reads as intentional arrangement rather than accumulated objects.
Material: 3–4mm optical clear acrylic
Print: UV direct print, full colour, white ink base layer for colour accuracy
Size options: A5 portrait (148×210mm standard), B6, custom
Name plate slot: 90–120mm wide, 8mm height, centred in lower panel
Base: Integrated — the lower portion of the standee extends below the name plate area and serves as the stand. No separate base piece needed.
Edge: Standard cut, slightly rounded corners. Polished edge available.
Double-sided: Available — back can have different art, reverse character view, or name/info panel
What's the main reason to choose full sheet over die-cut? You have a designed background that's part of the character's identity, and you want to show both together. If your illustration is just the character on a white or transparent background, die-cut is probably the right call. If the background is designed and meaningful, full sheet.
Can the base section double as a phone stand? Yes. The name plate slot is cut to a width that accommodates most phone sizes in landscape orientation. It's a genuinely functional phone stand.
Do I need to design the background, or can you create it? We can design a coordinating background based on your character's colour palette and aesthetic, or you supply the complete full-bleed artwork. Most artists supply the complete design — we provide a template with exact dimensions, safe zones, and the name plate slot position marked.
What goes in the name plate slot? Usually a printed card with the character name in matching typography. We print name cards as an add-on, or you print your own to the slot dimensions.
Is the base integrated or separate? The base is integrated — the lower portion of the standee is the stand. Nothing clips on or assembles. It arrives ready to display.
Minimum order? No minimum. Single pieces available. Artist and convention orders typically start at 20–50 units.
Your Character Has a World. Show It.
